About Aviozo

Aviozo is a free travel service: a map of the countries you have visited and want to visit, visa requirements by passport (including for a whole group at once), a cheap flight radar with price alerts, and trip planning with friends. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, in English and Russian.

Where the visa data comes from

This is the question that matters most for any visa service, so here is the full answer. The data has three layers, each one overriding the one before it:

  1. The open passport-index dataset. Re-imported automatically every week. It covers every passport and destination, but it lags behind changes and is wrong in places.
  2. Manual corrections. Where we know the dataset is wrong, we store a correction with its source and a date. For example, Russia and China have a mutual visa-free agreement that the dataset still records as “visa required”.
  3. Official-source extracts. The top layer: rows that someone opened on the destination country’s foreign ministry or border service website and saved together with a direct quote and the link. For some countries this covers close to two hundred passports.

What the “checked on” date means

Next to a visa answer we show the date the rule was checked against its official source. A weekly job re-checks that the source link is still alive: if the source disappears, that row stops counting as confirmed and no longer overrides the dataset.

What the date does not mean: that a human re-read the entire rule that day. Visa rules change often and sometimes without notice, so confirm with the destination’s official source before you book. We link to it on the page wherever we have it.

Entry formalities

A visa is not the only thing checked at the border. Some countries require a mandatory pre-arrival step, such as a digital arrival card, even when no visa is needed. General visa datasets do not cover this at all, so we keep it as a separate layer and only add a country once we have an official source and a quote. It is not filled in for every destination yet: where we have no data, we say nothing rather than guess.

Flight prices

Prices come from our flight cache, refreshed several times a day, and are pulled again live when you open the page. They are indicative one-way economy fares; the final price is confirmed on the partner’s side once you search specific dates.
